Philly Pride is cool and everything but if you didn’t know there are some awesome happenings that don’t always make popular tourism sites. Honestly, we prefer them to stay “hidden” although the gays should certainly know about them. Safety and representation during Philly Pride weekend is of the utmost importance.

While “popular” bars such as Woody’s in the Gayborhood, continue to be plagued with “the straights” in addition to Google reviews citing aggressive security and uncooperative management when it comes to an alarming amount of patrons reporting being drugged—there are thankfully safer destinations to patronize. For example, we love that the only Black-owned LGBTQ Bar in the Gayborhood, Level Up Bar & Lounge, is offering its patrons drink covers to get ahead of attempts to roofie unsuspecting guests.
No matter the scene, be safe. Don’t accept drinks from strangers—no matter how cute they are, and check out the following events that fly under the radar but deserve just as much attention as the typical “pride” lineup. Don’t sleep on these one-of-a kind events!

MARRIOTT PROTEST ALERT!
Details: FRIDAY, JUNE 2 at 6PM. Next Friday the Philly YCL/CPUSA along with other comrades will meet in front of the Marriott to let them know fascists are not welcomed in Philly! The right wing group “Moms For Liberty” is being hosted by the Marriott for their 2023 summit from June 29th-July 2nd. We demand the invitation be rescinded and that they apologize to all Philadelphians, especially Black and brown queer Philadelphians, for inviting fascism to our city.

Philly Pride Run is back for its 7th year of loud and proud running through the streets of Philadelphia and beyond. All runners and local running groups are invited to celebrate Pride with the LGBTQ+ communities by doing what we do best: running and bringing our communities closer!
